Symphony Orchestra (SO)
What is SO?
Symphony Orchestra (SO) is conducted by MYO Artistic Director and Chief Conductor, Synthia Ko. All of the SO members obtain ABRSM Grade 8 or above level. SO has collaborated with many renowned musicians and conductors: Chinese violin virtuoso Lu Siqing, famous cellist Wang Jian, pianist Michelle Kim, Nancy Loo, Colleen Lee, Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra (VPO) and VPO Maestro Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Professor Ernst Smole from Johannes Brahms Music School in Austria, Professor Yang Li from Beijing Central Conservatory of Music etc.
The orchestra always tries to broaden members’ horizon. Excerpt from performing in Hong Kong, the orchestra will perform in Beijing’s landmark National Centre for the Performing Arts and Tianjin Concert Hall in the coming April. It really builds a new milestone for MYO! In August, the orchestra will also exchange with MBC Youth Orchestra in Kagoshima Japan so to share joy of music.
The orchestra has performed around the globe throughout these years. In 2009 summer, SO premiered in the prestigious Haydn Hall in the Esterhazy Palace, Austria. The orchestra was also invited to perform in the finale concert of the Aberdeen International Youth Festival and the opening performance of the British Youth Orchestra Festival in August 2008.
We focus on opening up new performance formats this year. Charlie Chaplin “City Lights” Movie – Live Orchestral Screening, which will be held on July, combines all-time classic and orchestral accompaniment. The performance will surely bring great impact to the audience! The orchestra will meet with Magic Circle Mime again in November. Let see how the 2 zany characters bring laughter to us!
